Yes, you did read that right. This GT40 is in fact a Mercury and not a Ford! Ford was dominating the racing scene in the 1960s and Ford Motor Company’s Lincoln-Mercury Division just had to share a bit of the spotlight in an effort to help promote its new Mercury Cougar. By October of 1966 one GT40 was manufactured as a Mercury, and only 3 more would follow suit - making these cars rarities for sure!
In particular, this accurate 1:18 scale replica of the #4 1967 Mercury GT40 MK II by ACME portrays the car driven by Mark Donahue and Peter Revson in the 1967 24 Hours of Daytona race. It was one of two powerful Mercury GT40s that fiercely competed alongside their Ford GT40 opponents that race.
